My professional travel writing career began in Pennsylvania as I wandered Penn's Woods in search of stories. I started as a regular feature contributor to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Sunday section, and moved on to work with Pennsylvania and Westsylvania magazines on history and the outdoors throughout Pennsylvania. As a resident for 13 years and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, I accumulated a lot of tales. I had a regular travel column in the Pittsburgh Senior News for several years, which ended a year or so after I returned to Florida.
